Abstract

The main physicochemical characteristics of the Dong Nai River water in the Cat Tien National Park (Vietnam) were determined. They were as follows: water temperature in the surface layer ranged from 26,4 to 27,5 °C, in the bottom layer — 26 °C, water pH fluctuated from 6 to 9, oxygen content exceeded 4 mg/L, electrical conductivity values were below 50 µS/cm, salinity corresponded to the fresh water; the suspended matter concentration in the surface layer of water averaged 46,3±8,6 mg/L, and in the bottom layer 61,7±13,1 mg/L. All parameters were within the standard limits and corresponded the quality of water to level B (average water quality). These conditions were favorable for the existence and development of fish. The 14 species of fish have been recorded, 11 species are commercially important as commercial fisheries and/or aquaculture species, or are used in local fisheries. One of the species Onychostoma gerlachi (Peters, 1881) was classified as endangered, but its catch under present sizes and seasons is permitted.
