Abstract
The coastal waters of the Black Sea are subject to intense impact of various forms of anthropogenic activity that disrupt natural processes. Currently, a yacht marina is being built in the area of Balaklava Bay in the south-west of the Crimean Peninsula. A number of factors (bottom deepening, shore transformation, concreting of wet coastal zones, increased water turbidity) can lead to a violation of the stability of the bay ecosystem. In order to assess the current state of the mesozooplankton community in Balaklava Bay and adjacent waters, we conducted year-round monitoring in this area from February 2024 to January 2025. The following were analyzed: species composition, quantitative indicators, taxonomic structure, seasonal and spatial changes in mesozooplankton. Particular attention was paid to the copepod community as the main component of forage mesozooplankton. The current state of the mesozooplankton community is characterized as stable. It is necessary to continue year-round research in this area with a frequency of one or two times a month, including in connection with construction work in the area.
