Abstract

This paper is devoted to researches of behavior and underwater acoustic activity of Common dolphins in the water area of the southeast coast of Crimea. All three categories of sounds typical for dolphins have been marked out in processing of acoustic data. By results of systematization and analysis of tonal signals nine types which can potentially be “signature whistles” have been identified. The conducted researches have shown that the cumulative application of visual and acoustic methods of observation can significantly specify ideas of number, the social structure of population and specifics of behavior of this species.
